Getting here, getting around

Train: Castlemaine is an easy 90 minute journey from Melbourne’s Southern Cross station along the Bendigo line departing every hour from 6am to 10.30pm. Castlemaine Railway Station is centrally located making walking around town a great option.

Driving: Castlemaine is approx 120 km northwest of Melbourne driving via the Tullamarine Freeway then following the signs to Bendigo via the Calder Freeway. The turnoff to the old Calder Highway at Malmsbury will take you via Malmsbury, Taradale, Elphinstone and Chewton.

Walking: maps and plenty of local information is available from the Visitor Information Centre in the Castlemaine Market Building, 44 Mostyn Street, Castlemaine.

Surrounding towns in the shire include Maldon, Chewton, Harcourt, Guildford and Newstead. You can easily walk around Castlemaine and visit a large number of studios and venues on foot, the outlying areas really require a car or a strong pair of cycling legs!
