I make ceramic cups and plates. Everything I make is intended to be used, with each cup being slightly different so people can find the cup that fits best in their hand. I’m happy to work with people on custom designs or elements to help them find the perfect cup.
My work uses bright colours and feminine designs, and combines them with feminist messages such as “Cup of Ambition” or quotes from Julia Gillard’s misogyny speech. I want to show that you can be strong, serious and ambitious while still embracing femininity….something that society suggests isn’t possible.
My plates contain passages from Jane Austen novels that highlight agency of the female voice within the context of an oppressive and dominant patriarchy.
Finally, I make a cup and spoon set that is inspired by my love of drinking tea and the ritualistic nature of using loose leaf tea. The design includes a contrast of the smooth glaze areas against areas that are not glazed.
